beginner with screen printing- need advice

Post by blueElectric15 »

Hi there,

I am going to get into teaching myself screen printing so I can print on t'shirts. This means I am need of advice of the best starter kit to get. I don't really want to spend more then $200 at this stage as I am a novice and want to teach myself. Once I learn and get good at it, I would be interested in a more expensive one. Anyway, I have been looking at screen printing kits but I am undecided which ones are the best and which ones are better than others. I came across this one on ebay:

Speedball Ultimate DIAZO Fabric Screen Printing Kit:

Kit Includes:

two 8.5 in x 11 in transparency film
10 in x 14 in screen frame
9 in squeegee
4 craft sticks
4 fl oz black fabric ink
4 fl oz white fabric ink
4 fl oz red fabric ink
4 fl oz blue fabric ink
4 fl oz DIAZO Photo Emulsion
1/2 gram DIAZO Sensitizer
4 fl oz Photo Emulsion Remover
Instructional DVD
Exposure Lamp
9.5 in x 13.75 in black paper
Exposure Chart / Instructions

This NEW Kit includes all the essentials needed for the photo emulsion screen printing process. This method is one of the most exciting techniques of screen-printing because it offers the widest range of possibilities. This method allows for fine line drawings, various lettering techniques and photographic half-tone positives.

Does anyone know if this one does everything that you can do with screen printing??

Does anyone know whether this is a good one to start up with?? or can anyone reccommend one that I should get.

Thanks!

It is a veritable minefield out there when it comes to start-up kits. One start up kit will not do everything you want. You have to focus on one thing and buy accordingly. Once you have got the knack it is better then to add other kits more appropriate to the different job you require. Size is everything so choose wisely , start small and work your way up. Keep costs down in the beginning.
Hope this helps.
