What do you use to print film seperations?
I use an epson 7600 pro and an Xante Colour Screenwriter to make all my film seps.
What do you use and do you like it?

We use a Epson 3000 wide format printer with a standard Epson 3000 black ink cartridge. We print through FastRIP software out of Adobe Illustrator for spot color jobs. When printing out of Photoshop for simulated process color we use FastFILMS for compositon of art, a Adobe Photoshop plug-in. We print on FastPOSITIVE 13" by 18" transparent film using the transparency setting on the Epson 3000.
The FastPOSITIVE FILM yeilds excellent registration on multi-color jobs and
the Epson printer makes for good black ink opacity on the film positives for great exposure on our metal halide exposure unit. The Epson produces good halftones too.
This system seems to provide a good value mix of high quality at a moderate cost.

Could you please post where you buy your supplies.... I am in the market for a new system..Majordog wrote:We use California VellumTM 13 x 18.5(888 276 5486) printed on a GCC Technologies Elite XL 20/600 laser printer(800 422 7777). Paper and printer works awesome and alot less expensive than high cost ink jet printing and film. We run process, simulated process and spot colors.

Epson pro 5000
We just picked up a epson pro 500 with a efi rip. Our OS is Mac X.
We have the computer and the rip communicating, But once the rip "rips" the job, we get an error message " Printer Not Connected"....
And the obvious......yes the printer is connected via. serial cable.
The rip has software version 1.22, Like I said, I thought that we had it figured out, and this........ Man its always something. We presently are using a HP 5000 with frosted vellum. not bad but sometimes the opacity isnt dark enough...
So is it worth the change, going to the epson vs. the HP?
Any reco for us in ordering 12 x 18 film for the epson?
Thanks,

Re: What do you use to print film seperations?
I have a buddy that prints them for me with his wide format HP. I'm thinking about purchasing the 7800 package from silkscreeningsupplies.com but a little hesitant. I'm going to see if they can send me some samples. Anyone out there have this same configuration?
